Course Introduction:

The CHC40608 Certificate IV in Leisure & Health (Diversional Therapy Assistant) is a qualification to give graduates the knowledge and skills to assist in the design, implementation and evaluation of health and leisure programs for clients in residential facilities, community agencies and day centres. Graduates may work under professional supervision within defined organisational guidelines or work as sole practitioners. The program is designed for people interested in conducting lifestyle and leisure programs that encourage independence and enhance quality of life.

Qualification & Recognition:

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded the nationally recognised qualification CHC40608 Certificate IV in Leisure & Health.

Pre-Requisite:

  • Students who have not successfully completed Year 12 with passes in both Maths and English or Certificate IV or higher in Australia will be required to sit a literacy and numeracy test. This can be completed through CTA.
  • Successful applicants must provide a current Victorian Police Record Check, proof of Australian citizenship, permanent residency or an appropriate visa, and meet vaccination requirements prior to clinical placement.

Credit Transfer:

If students have already successfully completed units within the qualification, credit can be granted within our program.

Recognition of Prior Learning & Current Competencies:

Competencies gained through other formal study or experience may be acknowledged through a recognition process.

Job Prospects:

Graduates from the program may apply for work in the Residential Aged, Disability and Community Care Sectors. Occupational names may include Leisure Officer, Recreational Activities Officer, Diversional Therapy Assistant, Community Leisure Officer, Activities Officer and Support Worker. Graduates may apply for Level 2 membership with the Diversional Therapy Association.

Opportunities for Further Study:

Articulation may be possible to the Diploma level. Graduates of the Diploma may apply for full membership with the Diversional Therapy Association.

Traineeships:

Traineeships reduce your course cost significantly and the facility you sign up at can receive up to $4000 from the government as an incentive. To find out if you are eligible for a traineeship please contact VECCI Apprenticeship Services Ph: 1300 365 336. If you are eligible for the traineeship (ATTP) program please request and complete the registration form titled Funded Training Agreement. You will notice that the fees differ in this agreement. This form of training is delivered with Victorian Government Funding. Please remember if you apply for a traineeship you are responsible for finding an organisation or aged care facility to employ you as a trainee.

Course Length & Delivery:

The program is delivered on campus at Care Training Australia and is conducted over 40 weeks. Students must also complete 120 hours of clinical placement in the workplace.

Assessment:

Competency is assessed through a combination of assignments, presentations, portfolio, journals, self assessment workbooks, role-play, project, research and on the job assessments.
