Course Introduction:

The Certificate IV in Pathology HLT41807 is a qualification that gives graduates the skills and knowledge to work in pathology collection and clinical diagnostic areas. The units address the areas of Customer Service, Pathology Collection Techniques, Phlebotomy (blood collection), Infection Control, Occupational Health and Safety, Medical Terminology and Electrocardiography (ECG) and Holter Monitoring. CTA also has a number of funded places available for this course, subject to conditions.

Qualification & Recognition:

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded the nationally recognised qualification Certificate IV in Pathology HLT41807.

Pre-Requisite:

  • Students who have not successfully completed Year 12 with passes in both Maths and English or Certificate 4 or higher in Australia will be required to sit a literacy and numeracy test. This can be completed through CTA.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of Australian citizenship, permanent residency or an appropriate visa.

Credit Transfer:

If students have already successfully completed units within the qualification, credit can be granted within our program.

Recognition of Prior Learning & Current Competencies:

Competencies gained through other formal study or experience may be acknowledged through a recognition process.

Job Prospects:

Pathology collectors work extensively in the private and public pathology collection environments.

Opportunities for Further Study:

Articulation may be possible into other diagnostic qualification courses.

Traineeships:

Traineeships reduce your course cost significantly and the facility you sign up at can receive up to $4000 from the government as an incentive. To find out if you are eligible for a traineeship please contact VECCI Apprenticeship Services Ph: 1300 365 336. If you are eligible for the traineeship (ATTP) program please request and complete the registration form titled Funded Training Agreement. You will notice that the fees differ in this agreement. This form of training is delivered with Victorian Government Funding. Please remember if you apply for a traineeship you are responsible for finding an organisation or aged care facility to employ you as a trainee.

Course Length & Delivery:

The program is run on campus and consists of classes 2 days per week for 16 weeks from 9.15am – 3.15pm. Extensive practical experience is undertaken in the CTA clinical laboratory.

Assessment:

Competency is assessed through a combination of practical application and demonstration of skills, oral and written presentations, group activities, observation, role plays, research and analysis.
