Course Introduction:
The Medication Administration for Division 2 Registered Nurses in Victoria HLTEN507A & HLTAP501A is a course designed to provide the Victorian Division 2 Registered Nurse with the knowledge and skills required to safely administer oral, topical, enteral medications as well as subcutaneous, intramuscular injections and care of intravenous therapy. The introduction of this new course for Division 2 nurses increases employability and contributes to professional development with greater knowledge of pharmacology to complement nursing skills and ensure safe practice.
Qualification & Recognition:
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the units within Medication Administration for Division 2 Registered Nurses in Victoria HLTEN507A & HLTAP501A. Achievement of this course will enable students to obtain endorsement from the Nurses Board of Victoria (NBV) to be a Medication Endorsed Division 2 Registered Nurse and gain national recognition in other states within Australia.
Pre-Requisite:
- All participants will be required to sit a pre-entrance test when registering (at the cost of $20) to ensure competency to complete this course.
- Applicants who completed their Division 2 Nursing Training before 1995 are required to undertake pre-assessment testing. This includes Literacy (Level 4), Numeracy (Level 3) and Anatomy & Physiology testing, as per the NBV and curriculum requirements.
- Applicants must have a current Division 2 registration in Victoria.
- Applicants must provide a copy of their Certificate IV in Nursing.
- Applicants must be a permanent resident of Victoria.
- Successful applicants must provide a current Victorian Police Record Check, proof of Australian citizenship, permanent residency or an appropriate visa, and meet vaccination requirements prior to clinical placement.
Credit Transfer:
If students have already successfully completed units within the qualification, credit can be granted within our program.
Recognition of Prior Learning & Current Competencies:
Competencies gained through other formal study or experience may be acknowledged through a recognition process.
Job Prospects:
Graduates from the course may apply for work in the Acute, Aged and Community Health sectors within Victoria.
Opportunities for Further Study:
Articulation may be possible to a diploma/degree course, usually assessed on an individual basis.
Course Length & Delivery:
Classes are on campus two days per week over 8 weeks. The first 4 days of classes are from 9.15am – 3.15pm, and the following 12 days of classes are from 9.00am – 4.00pm. This is followed by a 2 week block of clinical placement, in which you will be required to work Monday – Friday for 5 morning and 5 afternoon shifts (total of 76 hours). Clinical placement will be in an approved aged care setting as organised by CTA.
Assessment:
Competency assessment is based on a combination of assignments, progress and tests.
