Course Introduction:
The course in Perform CPR qualification gives graduates the skills and knowledge required to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.
Qualification & Recognition:
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded the recognised Statement of Attainment in HLRCPR201A Performing CPR - Valid for 12 months. *

The skills and knowledge gained in this program may be applied in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings such as the Aged Care industries, Swimming Centers, Hospitality industries, and Nursing. **
Course Length & Delivery:
On Campus & Workplace: The program duration is 2 hours.
Assessment:
Competency is assessed through demonstration, with questioning to confirm essential knowledge.

Performance Criteria:
- Identify hazards to health and safety of self and others.
- Minimise immediate risk to health and safety of self, casualty and others by isolating any hazards.
- Approach the casualty in a calm, culturally aware, sensitive and respectful manner.
- Assess vital signs of casualty.
- Recognise the need for CPR.
- Perform CPR in line with ARC Guidelines.
- Seek assistance from others and/or ambulance support as appropriate.
- Request ambulance support or appropriate medical assistance and/or ambulance support using available means of communication.
- Accurately convey details of casualty’s condition and CPR procedures performed to emergency services/relieving personnel.
- Calmly provide information to reassure casualty, using a communication style to match the casualty’s level of consciousness.
- Use available resources and equipment to make the casualty as comfortable as possible.
- Provide reports, where applicable, in a timely manner, presenting all relevant facts relating to performing CPR according to established procedures.
Casualty is managed for:
- Signs of collapse
- Unconsciousness
- Unresponsive
- Not moving
- Not breathing normally
Essential Skills:
- Assess vital signs of casualty.
- Demonstrate correct procedures for performing CPR using a manikin, including standard precautions.
- Call an ambulance.
- Call for medical assistance.
- Identify and minimise hazards to health and safety of self and others in the immediate workplace or community environment.
- Report details of incident and CPR as provided.
- Use infection control procedures, including standard precautions.
Demonstrated CPR procedure must:
- Include adult/child and infant casualties.
- Recognition that ‘any resuscitation is better than none’.
- Demonstrate appropriate rate, location and depth of compression.
- Demonstrate correct ratio of compressions to ventilations.
- Demonstrate checking for signs of life.
- Demonstrate appropriate duration and cessation of CPR.
* This qualification is valid for 1 year and the Australian Resuscitation Council recommends updating your CPR every 12 months.
